How eye surgery estimates are prepared
TL;DR
An estimate for eye surgery is prepared individually, after a consultation, because it depends on the examination findings and on the lens or technique selected. This page explains what decides the cost, what a written estimate includes, and how cashless insurance applies.
What is included in an estimate
A written estimate itemises the consultation, the lens selected, the procedure, and the follow-up visits. For cataract surgery or vision correction, the lens and technique are decided after your eyes are examined and measured, which is why the estimate follows the consultation.
What decides the cost
- The procedure. Cataract surgery, LASIK, and ICL are different operations with different costs.
- The lens or technique for your eyes. For cataract, a monofocal, toric (for astigmatism) or multifocal intraocular lens; for vision correction, laser or an implanted lens. This is usually the largest single factor, and it is a clinical choice made with you.
- The complexity of your particular eye. Some eyes need additional planning, and this is explained to you if it applies.
- Cashless or self-funded. Whether your care runs through insurance changes what you pay directly.
What a written estimate shows
- The procedure advised and the eye or eyes it applies to.
- The lens or technique selected, named.
- The consultation and the follow-up visits it includes.
- The part expected to be met by insurance, where a cashless request applies, and the part payable by you.
If a further test or an additional step is advised later, the reason and the cost are explained to you before it is done.
Questions to ask about your estimate
- Which lens or technique is this estimate for, and what would change if I chose a different one?
- Does it cover one eye or both?
- Which follow-up visits are included?
- Are the medicines and drops after surgery included?
- What will my insurance not pay, and when will I know the final amount?
These are answered at the consultation. You can take the written estimate home and decide later.
Ways to pay
Payment can be made by cash, card, UPI or internet banking, or through cashless insurance where your policy applies.
Insurance and cashless
Cataract surgery is commonly covered by health insurance, and the hospital is empanelled on GIPSA PPN and with major TPAs, so cashless treatment is often possible. Refractive procedures like LASIK and ICL are usually elective and self-funded. Cover varies by policy, so we check yours before your visit. See the insurance and cashless page, or send your insurer's name on WhatsApp.
How to get an estimate
Tell us which surgery you are asking about, then come in for a consultation. The surgeon examines your eyes, the lens or technique is discussed with you, and you are given a written estimate for your plan, including any cashless or insurance route.
Assessment, procedure and follow-up as one plan.
Your assessment, your eye surgery and follow-up visits are planned together, so the findings from your consultation carry through to the procedure and the reviews afterwards.
What is discussed before any procedure.
- You meet the operating surgeon before the day of the procedure.
- The lens or treatment plan is discussed in relation to your eye and your daily needs.
- Risks, benefits and alternatives are explained, and results vary from person to person.
- You are told whom to contact after the procedure and when your reviews are due.
