Second opinion consultations
TL;DR
Dr. P. Siva Reddy Eye Hospital offers second opinion consultations for eye conditions. You are examined again in person, your existing reports and scans are reviewed, and the findings are explained to you in plain language. You can send your reports on WhatsApp before you visit.
When people ask for a second opinion
Patients ask for a second opinion when they want to understand a diagnosis or a recommended treatment more fully before deciding. Common subjects are the timing of cataract surgery, a new diagnosis of glaucoma, and suitability for refractive surgery. Asking for a second opinion is an accepted part of medical care.
What the consultation involves
The ophthalmologist examines you in person and repeats the measurements that are relevant to your case. Your existing reports and scans are reviewed with you, and the findings are explained in language you can follow.
What you are told at the end
At the end of the visit the findings are explained: what the examination shows, what the treatment options are, and what follow-up is advised. If treatment is advised, you are told why, what it involves, and what the alternatives are.
What to bring
Bring whatever you already have: previous prescriptions, test reports, OCT or visual field printouts, scan images, and a list of your current eye drops or medicines. If you only have photos of the reports on your phone, you can send them on WhatsApp ahead of time and we will tell you what else, if anything, to bring.
Fees and tests
A second opinion is a standard consultation with the ophthalmologist. If a further test is advised for your case, the reason is explained to you before it is done.
Sending your reports first
You can send your existing reports and prescriptions on WhatsApp before you visit. We will suggest what to bring and help you pick a time. The hospital is in Himayat Nagar, Hyderabad, and was established in 1975.
Second opinion: patient guide
What happens, step by step
- Send or bring your reports.Earlier prescriptions, scans and the advice you were given.
- Examination. You are examined in person, and the measurements relevant to your question are repeated.
- Review of your reports.Your existing scans are read alongside the new findings.
- Explanation. You are told what the examination shows, the options, and what follow-up is advised.
What a second opinion can and cannot do
- The opinion is based on the examination on that day and the records you bring. If earlier scans are not available, some tests may need to be repeated.
- A second opinion may agree with the first. Its purpose is to help you understand your options, whatever they are.
- You are not asked to decide on any treatment at the visit.
How much time to keep
- Around an hour if your eyes are dilated, because the drops take 20 to 30 minutes to work. Additional scans add to this.
